Whoever Wins, Thank You Boston!

Both teams have not seen a World Series since the 1940s. Today, they break their droughts.
The World Series is upon us, and whoever you are rooting for, the feeling that history is being made is flowing through the air. So now it comes time to ask the biggest question in sports this year: Who will win the 2016 World Series? The two choices are either the Cleveland Indians or the Chicago Cubs. For me, it's a very complicated decision. For both teams, I dislike them both because I am a Chicago White Sox fan.

One of the big reasons why do not like the Chicago Cubs is because I could never find myself identifying with the team. The Cubs represent the North Side of Chicago, which comes off many of times as a much more business, Wall Street, big money part of town. They are very similar to the Yankees in a way: the atmosphere feels to business-like for me.

Now that is just my opinion and everyone needs to understand that right now. I know that the Cubs are better than the Sox and clearly that atmosphere works for them. But South Side seems to have something about the ball park, the surrounding neighborhoods, the way that part of the city is looked at, and so much more. Say whatever you want about the south side of Chicago, but to me, I would rather with in that setting with those fans then in Wrigley. Again, I have all the respect for the Cubs and their history, but I have the right to choose who I like just as anyone has the right to disagree with me.

One of the big reasons why I dislike the Cleveland Indians is that they have continued to grow and beat the White Sox, while the Sox have continued to have problems that have resulted in numerous abysmal seasons. As if it isn't bad enough that they have continued to wipe the floor with us, they just have to be in our division as well and make it more painful while we also lose to Kansas City and even Minnesota. So I guess I am complaining a little bit (which I apologize for to you all). But I am sure my Cubs fans know what I am talking about with a team like the St. Louis Cardinals.

For both the Indians and the Cubs, this is one of the biggest games in sports history. The Chicago Cubs finally reach the World Series for the first time since 1945 and now look to win it for the first time since 1908, which saw a powerhouse team that included Mordecai "Three Finger" Brown, Joe Tinker, and Johnny Evers. The Indians have not seen or won the World Series since 1948, a year which saw the Indians with player such as Bob Feller, Satchel Paige, and Lou Boudreau.

Comment on who you think will win it all? Who will be World Series MVP?

Both Cleveland and Chicago have that gritty hardworking feeling that runs through the streets. Sports have been a huge part of both cities' successes. Chicago looking to try and capture the championship to be along side the Blackhawks, and White Sox for winning championships in the 21st century. Cleveland hoping to build off of the success that they found in finally winning a championship in the city with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

To look at these rosters, both of these teams are very close in style and skill. The differences are in how the teams pitched, with the Cubs going for more movement and accuracy instead of speed, while the Indians have a combination of both speed, movement and accuracy. Both teams have a combination of power and speed at the plate and on the bases. The Cubs seem to be the more power-hitting squad, while the Indians are more focused on contact and speed. Chicago have a young squad that is was picked to win it all from the beginning, which means that the Cubs have a lot riding on the line. Cleveland have the more experienced roster and were not expected to get this far at all, which means they pretty much have nothing to lose.

As you can probably tell by now, this article is all about opinions, feelings, and stuff like that. I could go through stats and numbers to talk about match-ups here and there. But this one is special because of the two teams and the importance of such a game in the history of sports and the world really. I thought it would be best to allow my emotions to come out on the page and allow others to express themselves about the series.

So by now, many are wondering what the title means. The title of this article is something I said to my father while driving in the car today: "Regardless of whoever wins, the real winners of the World Series are the Boston Red Sox." If you don't know what I mean, let me explain it. The Cubs winning the World Series will be huge and much of the thanks will have to go to Chicago's general manager Theo Epstein, who was a big part in the 2004 Boston Red Sox breaking their World Series drought and then winning it again in 2006.

If the Indians win the the World Series, it will be Cleveland's manager Terry Francona who will be the bell of the ball. Just like Epstein, Francona was there as the Red Sox's manager for the 2004 and 2006 championship seasons. Francona also had a season as a player with the Cubs in 1986. Also, a quick shout out to former Red Sox's player Dave Roberts, who played on the 2004 championship team, for winning NL Manager of the Year, despite many (including me) thinking that Cub's manager Joe Madden should have won the award.

So when it comes down to it, whoever does win this World Series, the real winners of the World Series will be the Boston Red Sox for helping to form the pieces that made this year's baseball season one full of incredible play and amazing moments that have lead up to one of sports history's greatest moments. So as the title says, I want to say on behalf of all of us here in the S.O.S. Nation, Thank you Boston for giving us amazing baseball for years to come. Now, let's play ball!
