The Chicago Bulls Pt. 1: Moves and Trades

{See the cont. article in The Chicago Bulls Pt.2: 2015 Free Agents}

Nazr Mohammed does nothing more
than take up cap and bench room.
The NBA's trade deadline has past and as usual, the Chicago Bulls made not one single attempt to make an impactful trade in order to better the squad. But beyond that, let's look at the offseason some and see just what the Chicago Bulls could do potentially in terms of trade talks and free agent signings for next year. Now I'm not saying that the Bulls are not already pretty talented, but main core pieces like Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah have started to show the type of play that can only lead to me thinking that we will never see these two players back at their best and peak form again. I may be wrong this, but I can no longer deal with the injuries and missing practices and whatever else keeps coming from them.

Kirk Hinrich used be good,
and then I guess he took an
arrow to the knee or something.
Moves that must be made: The biggest ones, as I've said before, is finding a way to trade Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah while they still have some value and can get you a decent play maker at either shooting guard or center. Another and I hate saying this, but Taj Gibson will probably asked to be moved since he's a player that has shown to be more valuable as a starter than just the "sixth man" coming off the bench. If they can keep him, great. However, some of these trades would probably require his name to be in there. Other moves are the release of a useless Kirk Hinrich and Nazr Mohammed since neither of them can play the game in any impacting manner anymore defensively or offensively. Both players are just taking up space on the bench, as well as wasting the Bulls' time and money. And finally, with this year's draft containing only a few actually decent NBA type players, the Bulls' draft pick is pretty much worth getting rid of in a trade in order to acquire someone who is much more established in the NBA.

Best Trades Possible (If possible at all):

DeMarcus Cousins would be amazing here in Chicago.
-DeMarcus Cousins/ center/ Sacramento Kings: It may seem like a long shot to some of you, but he would be the perfect fit for the Chicago Bulls. The 6'11" center for the Kings has been on fire all season long this year, despite what Sacramento's record may be. However, the record and constant losing seasons are some of the reasons why I think DeMarcus Cousins would maybe consider the idea of making a move. I could see him fitting in well in Chicago, especially when you consider how effective he would be with Pau Gasol (so long as he stays healthy), Nikola Mirotic, and Jimmy Butler. Right now, Cousins has been averaging about 24 points per game and around 12.5 rebounds per game while also blocking close to 2 shots a game as well. And when you take him his stats, the powerful inside game that he brings, and  a good nose for defending in the post, it's safe to say that his asking price would be quite high.

Bulls' Offer: If the Bulls do make a move on DeMarcus Cousins and considering the Kings are willing to hear about a trade for him, it would probably take Rose, Noah, Gibson [or first round pick], and a future first round pick.

Steve Blake's face say it all about Anthony Davis.
-Anthony Davis/ forward-center/ New Orleans Pelicans: This is, again, another long shot for the Bulls to be able to try after, but in order to be able to win big, sometimes you need to gamble big. "The Brow" is having his finest season as an NBA big man, and while not much has been said, I would put him in running for possibly MVP. The 6'10 forward-center for New Orleans started off as just a simple defensive player, but has since grown into quite a phenomenal overall athlete in the NBA. Although considered New Orleans' franchise player, I think it has be fair to say that Davis cannot be happy with how the team has been performing around him. Not to mention the fact that he is starting to show some wear and tear on the body. This year, Davis has been averaging almost 24 points and about 10.5 rebounds per game while also having nearly 3 blocks a game. Despite the fact that Davis has been suffering from injuries more now, there is now question that he is the team's franchise player and would have a high price for him.

Bulls' Offer: Considering that Davis sees coming home as an intriguing chance to get better and win more and New Orleans is willing to talk about the possibility of trade, it would probably take Rose Noah, Gibson, and two future first round picks in to secure him.

It feels like KD's health, attitude, and
ability might be seriously called into
question soon.
-Kevin Durant/ forward/ Oklahoma City Thunder: Yes, I know this is, without a doubt, the craziest outcome that I am suggesting Chicago try to make happen. But based on what I have seen from him these past few seasons in OKC, I can't help but feel that Durant may be looking for  chance to escape to a new franchise. The 6'9" forward was originally planned to be the team's franchise player when he went No. 2 overall in 2007, back when the Thunder were up in the northwest where they were could be found in Seattle, Washington under the name of the Seattle SuperSonics. After Durant's first season, the team relocated to Oklahoma City and changed everything. Now in 2015, I find myself a bit unsure as to who the Thunder's franchise player really is since many seem to praise point guard Brian Westbrook mores than KD. And it's not just because Durant has been getting injured now; this stretches back a couple years ago when talks began about just who was more valuable to the team. This season, Kevin Durant's numbers has somewhat slipped some compared to past seasons, yet he is still able to average 25.4 points per game, 6.6 rebounds per game, and about 4 assists per game. Even though Durant is injured right now and has been sitting out, there's no doubt that his price tag would be a hefty one to take on.

Bulls' Offer: If Kevin Durant shows that he is not happy in OKC and the Thunder are willing to hear possible trade offers, the Bulls may need to send Rose (possibly), Gibson, Mirotic, Noah, two future first round draft picks (possibly one), two future second picks (possibly one or none).

While is would be amazing for the Bulls to secure just one of these three possible players, it is very unlikely that any of those players will be available for trade talks nor would Chicago be actually willing to offer something for them even if they were available because this team just always seems to like the way it is; strong enough to perform but unable to get over the hill. But let's not dwell on the seemingly impossible and focus on the better option at hand in Free Agency.
